OUR MISSION

Reaching People | Meeting Needs | Changing Lives | Inspiring Futures

We aim to connect the strength of local organizations and communities with individual and community needs, reaching the unreachable, especially high-risk youth in underserved and marginalized communities. We aim to fortify, unite, and empower underserved and underrepresented communities, enabling them to find their voices and take on active roles as agents, advocates, and activists.

OUR MISSON

The Community Initiatives of New York, TCIONY is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the relationship between individuals and the communities in which they reside. Through collaboration with government agencies, corporate partners, and local leadership, we strive to empower underserved and underrepresented black and brown communities. While TCIONY is a Harlem-based organization, we provide educational instruction, professional development, and community engagement across New York City.

We believe that building an equitable society starts with a deep understanding of the institutions and systems shaping our choices. By actively opposing negative actors and influences, we engage in our personal and communal development. We become agents of change, actively working to dismantle institutions that undermine the sovereignty of black and brown individuals and communities. Our ultimate goal is to establish fair and sustainable practices that guarantee safety, dignity, and progress for everyone.

We believe the heart of any community is its youth. Many of our initiatives and programs focus on cultivating the potential and talents of young people to foster positive change within themselves and their communities. At TCIONY, our mission is to encourage young people to think critically and develop their voices. With a strong foundation, they can take full advantage of career opportunities, leadership roles, and continued education. We want to help youth strengthen their social, emotional, and mental health and use their strength to curb youth-generated violence. Ultimately, we hope to provide youth with a strong sense of self and a support system that continues to inspire them to make better choices.
